Boards
All the latest boards are twin tip. While a wider board can make you go higher without much effort, an aggressive rider will find that the narrower boards will give you the hardest cuts, the biggest airs and the sickest falls.
Bindings
Boots or high-wraps are preferred by most serious riders
as they normally offer the best control of the board and good ankle support. Mid-wraps and straps are preferred by riders that intend to share their board with riders with
different shoe sizes, or they are looking for a more lightweight binding that costs less.
Fins
With the twin-tip board, you will want to start with a large one on the tail (2.5 inch) and a small fin on the nose (1.75 inch or smaller).
Rope
The main thing to ensure with your rope, is that it is
non-stretch. When you cut hard with a stretchy rope, you load up the line until you leave the water, then the rope will snap back and pull you back down towards the
water. A non-stretch rope allows you to swing and float your moves.
A full length ski rope is 75 feet long. For wakeboarding, you will want to purchase a 3 or 5 section rope so that you can remove varioius lengths.
Most wakeboarders will ride with rope lengths between 41 feet (34 off) and 60 feet (15 off). A longer rope will allow you to float your tricks more.
Move to a shorter rope if you are not clearing the wake or you are in a washy part of the wake. Speed and weight will affect the wake of the boat and will change the length of rope required.
Water Bags / Fat Sacks
A large water bag, commonly called a fat sack, can be
filled with water and placed at the back of the boat to weigh it down and generate a larger wake. If you also have a few riders in your boat, you may end
up with too much weight in the back, creating a washy wake and making it difficult to get the boat to plane. If this happens, get riders to move towards the bow of the boat or otherwise move the weight up in the boat.
We recommend Skylon FatBuddies, "It's like having a couple of little fat buddies in the back of your boat who don't ski." Fill with water to add over 500 lbs. of dead weight in your boat in under 10 minutes...without lifting an
ounce. Once emptied, use as an equipment bag or fold to any size for easy storage. 1100 gallon/hour Filling Kit & Ballast Weights sold separately.
Extended Pylons and Towers
The extended pylon extends the traditional 30-inch pylon
to approx. 8 feet, providing a higher lift point to give you more air time. Think of it as a flag pole, where you are the flag!
We carry two of the best names in extended pylons, Hylon and Skylon. Cages or tower systems are also available and many of our Moomba and Supra towboats come standard with the Rad-A-Cage tower system.
PFD Vests
Look for a vest that isn't too bulky so that it won't get in the
way. Although you may see many of the pros boarding without a vest, you will find out pretty fast that it is preferable to treading water against the floatation of your board for any more than 20 seconds.
